New doctor

Jeff:
I saw the new doctor this morning and he seems to be a good one. He wrote a new prescription for Stadol and said he'll work with me on the migraines in addition to the headache clinic, but he wants to get my file from my previous doctor and review it before he does anything, which makes sense. He wasn't concerned at the rate with which I use Stadol, but he did tell me that Metoclopramide, which I take as an anti-nausea drug, has some nasty side-effects. Apparently, if you take too much of it, you develop a strong twitch and that continues even if you never take the drug again. This was the first I'd ever heard of this, so I'm reducing how often I use it. I don't take it every day, and I'm not twitching, so I must be OK so far.

Thanks to those who posted messages or sent e-mails wishing me success in finding a new doctor. I think I've got a good one.

Aisha:
Jeff,

That is great news about your doctor! It is so nice to hear some good news for a change! Especially concerning those "practitioners".....

I'm really pleased for you. As someone (like you) who has seen many a physician, I know how important finding someone who you respect and has a clue is. Tis great news! Lets hope he knows the secrets and can make you feel even better! Maybe this change is for the best....everything happens for a reason!

Great News....I really am thrilled for you!

Diann:
Congratulations on finding a good doctor. I hope your good luck rubs off on me and that I, too, can find one. I have to wait until April 1st to change due to this HMO crap.

Jeff:
Next time I get to the public library, I'm going to look up Metoclopramide in a drug encyclopedia and see what it says about it. I'm surprised that the two neuros I've seen and my family doctor never said anything about this side-effect.

I used to take Zantac for acid reflux, but a revised drug information sheet then said it could cause headaches, so my doctor switched me to Pepcid (Famotidine) a few years ago.

Michele:
I take prevacid - which is great.
